This was a wonderful open game where the attack minded Seneschalstown girls set their stall out early on as they looked to dominate the scoreboard in the opening half. Mallaidh Breen operating on the edge of the square and with great support from centre half forward Caragh Monaghan opened the scoring with a goal quickly followed up with a fine free from Ava Jane Ryan. Ms. Breen was in ruthless form, finding the top corner of the net to secure a second goal before Ashbourne responded with 2 points.

Breen again pounced with another goal to secure her hat trick within 15 minutes and she popped over a point for fun again shortly after. Donaghmore/Ashbourne dug deep but were not getting much change from a solid rear-guard. Shauna Gordon was finding her teammates expertly with her kickouts and coming off her line very well while her defence was immense around her.

The return of the injured Lauren Donnelly was a tonic for the team and she went on to play a huge part at full back in securing this win. Alongside her Aoife Mulvaney and Aine Nangle were supreme and what is the bedrock of this team the half back line was immense Aoibhé Monaghan, Leanne Clarke and Sadhbh McLarney. Midfielders Aoife Lenihan and Zoe Kirwan were dominating the exchanges and Lenihan stepped up with a fine point to extend the lead 3-03 to 0-03.

Corner forward Ella Kilfeather was enjoying a lively evening and kicked a fine point before Ava Jane Ryan found the bottom corner of the net after an excellent move. Donaghmore/Ashbourne responded well and scored a penalty that gave Gordon no chance before Caragh Monaghan responded immediately with a fine point after great combination play with Breen to leave the score at the interval reading Donaghmore/Ashbourne 1-03 Seneschalstown 4-05.

Donaghmore/Ashbourne started the second half well and now wind assisted scored a fine goal to eat into the Furze lead. Aoife Lenihan responded with another free before Breen found the net for the 4th time with a sublime finish. Again Breen pointed before Ashbourne scored 3 points from play and we’re enjoying their best spell. A brace of points from Sinead McLarney finished the scoring but the half forward line of Orla Finnegan Caragh Monaghan and Ava Jane Ryan combined brilliantly throughout the game.

Their tackling and running off the ball was a joy and the inside line of Kilfeather, McLarney and the poacher supreme Breen showed why these girls are playing with such confidence. A shot at silverware awaits. Let the Senior men follow in their footsteps!
