Seneschalstown Ladies magnificent year came to a rewarding end as they completed the double for the second year in a row by adding the Feis Cup to their county championship title after defeating junior county champions Dee Rangers in perfect conditions in Seneschalstown on Sunday afternoon.

Seneschalstown Ladies magnificent year came to a rewarding end as they completed the double for the second year in a row by adding the Feis Cup to their county championship title after defeating junior county champions Dee Rangers in perfect conditions in Seneschalstown on Sunday afternoon.

In a tight opening period Seneschalstown opened the scoring in the 4th minute when full forward Stacey Grimes tapped over a free. The visitors equalised straight away, also from a free before their corner forward kicked a brace of points in the 9th and 13th minutes, one from a placed ball. The gap was halved a minute later by Aisling Taaffe who pointed after a pass from Orla Sheridan. Grimes registered a brace of frees to regain the hosts advantage before goalkeeper Lisa Mullen pulled off a brilliant save to keep the home side in front. However, Dee Rangers pulled level before half time as the teams headed to the changing rooms level- 0-04 apiece.

Louise Coyle was introduced to the fray at half time and she had an immediate impact by restoring Seneschalstown’s advantage before midfielder Róisín Commons made it a two point game. The gap was eventually doubled when Coyle kicked her second and Ruth Commons her first. However, Dee Rangers were not finished and were thrown a lifeline in the 42nd minute when scoring the game’s only goal leaving a single point between the teams. Seneschalstown kept their focus however as Coyle pointed again and Ruth Commons raised her second white flag opening up a three point gap. Grimes, again from a free and Ruth Commons left 5 points in it. with 6 minutes to play. Dee Rangers, to their credit kept going and reduced the gap to four. Seneschalstown finished out the game with a couple of points from Edel McGrane and Fiona Mahon either side of Dee Rangers last point.

The victory completed an excellent year for the team and after the game the Feis Cup was presented to Mary Murray and Amy Gilsenan.
