A League Division 1 Round 10

St. Colmcilles 0-12 Seneschalstown 5-13

Seneschalstown travelled to an excellently presented Piltown grounds for Round 10 of the Division 1 League to try and get back in contention after wins by all the teams around them in the division.

Seneschalstown started quickest with scores from Johnny Gilsenan and Brian Sheridan getting one from play and a free. Niall Hickey then stormed forward from half back and slotted his low shot in the back of the net, Brian Sheridan added another goal and then another Hickey run from the half back line saw him set up Groome who netted Seneschalstown’s 3rd goal of the first half. Next up for Seneschalstown was Brian Sheridan again who rattled the crossbar from a free kick, then Joe Sheridan took his score with excellent technique from play with his left foot. In the next play Damien Sheridan took flight to pluck one from the skies in the middle of the park and Seneschalstown were really on a roll while playing with a strong breeze. Not to be outdone by his brother Joe, Brian Sheridan was next to slot over with a classy left footed point from play.

Seneschalstown really took a foot hold in the middle, but strong showing from the oppositions Ben Brennan & Gerry McCloskey. St. Colmcilles lost their corner back Tomas O’Hoistin at the end of the first half with an injury while chasing down the Seneschalstown inside forwards, Seneschalstown finished the half the strongest with Damien Sheridan interception, off loaded to Joe Sheridan who with an accurate foot pass found Adam Gleeson who slotted over from play on 28 minutes. Another great Seneschalstown turnover from Tean Cummins who linked with Damien Sheridan, who accurately found Brian Sheridan who duly obliged with an excellent score from the right hand side of the ground. At half time the scores were Seneschalstown 3-7 St. Colmcilles 0-6.

St. Colmcilles opened the second half events with a remarkable goal line clearance from Sean McCabe, next shot hit the crossbar and cleared off the line by Paul Carey straight up the opposite end to be pointed by Johnny Gilsenan and followed up by another Brian Sheridan point. Eight minutes into the second half St. Colmcilles did open their account with a pointed free after a superb block and defending from Sean McCabe, but the referee adjudged Niall McCabe to have picked the ball off the ground. Next up to net for Seneschalstown was Brian Sheridan after a great ball in from Adam Gleeson.

The Seneschalstown manager then began to empty the bench and Eoin Finnegan came on and immediately netted. ‘Gooch’ Finnegan, showed great balance and composure to round the keeper and net for Seneschalstown’s 5th goal of the evening. John Gilsenan next showed great work to turn the ball over and then get onto the end of the move for another excellent score. Eddie Meade came from the bench to immediate effect in the attach and showed well getting a cleverly taken fisted point.

Niall McCabe playing corner back finished the game with the score of the game from play against the wind close to the sideline with the outside of the boot to the cheers of the Seneschalstown supporters. McCabe’s point left Seneschalstown comfortable winners by 5-13 to 0-12.
