Clonard 0-2 Seneschalstown 9-16

Seneschalstown had a comprehensive victory against the newly formed Clonard adult team in this Div. 5 third round clash in Clonard. Only formed recently, the Clonard girls gave a good account of themselves and fought right to the end. A nice crowd gathered as this was the first competitive home game for the Clonard team.

Seneschalstown had a comprehensive victory against the newly formed Clonard adult team in this Div. 5 third round clash in Clonard. Only formed recently, the Clonard girls gave a good account of themselves and fought right to the end. A nice crowd gathered as this was the first competitive home game for the Clonard team.

The opening ten minutes were well contested and Chrystal Delamere opened the scoring in the second minute followed up by the first goal from Shirley Quinn in the eight minute. Between the eleventh and fifteenth minutes Seneschalstown tagged on 5 quick fire points from play from Delamere (2), Orla Garry (2) and Laura Burke. The biggest cheer of the day came when the home team opened their account with a pointed free in the sixteenth minute.

In the final ten minutes of the half the Seneschalstown girls tagged on 1-06 without reply with scores from Louise Byrne (1-01), Burke, Kelly Smith, Aoife Sheehy and Delamere to leave the halftime score at 2-12 to 0-01.

The opening two minutes of the second half proved very productive for Aoife Sheehy a she helped herself to two goals. Shauna Gordon then opened her account with a point from play in the thirty fourth minute. The next three scores for the winners were three well taken goals from Quinn, Smith and Garry before Byrne and Delamere added to their tally with points from play.

Clonard got their second point from a free in the fifty third minute before Smith and Byrne raised green flags for the winners. Orla Finnegan, making her first start at adult competitive level, scored a fine point and the last score of the day went to Shauna Gordon.

Next up for the team is a home game against Donaghmore/Ashbourne which has to be played by May 1st.
