Meath B League Division 2 Round 9

Nobber 1-07 Seneschalstown 4-15

Seneschalstown Junior A squad relinquished home advantage to Nobber for this last round of the B league division 2 competition. The match played was under lights on Friday 9th September at 7.30pm to facilitate the Seneschalstown fundraiser climb to Croagh Patrick on Saturday 10th September and saw Seneschalstown looking to win promotion and league final spot with only one loss in the competition to-date.

Seneschalstown dominated the first half proceedings with Neil Derby, Niall McCabe, James Conlon and Ryan O’Dowd running amuck. The visiting team held a commanding half time lead despite a number of regulars missing going in for the break 4-07 to Nobber’s 0-05. Manager Mickey Dillon made some changes to freshen up proceedings, taking off players on yellow cards and it was the big guns arrived in at halftime with Davy Gordon coming in for senior team selector Shane Clarke, Damien McDonald for Colin Gleeson, who had spent most of the first period attaching holes in the Nobber rear-guard. Early in the second period say Aiden Finnegan replaced Stephen Finnegan in centre field after Finnegan had dominated the sector.

In truth Seneschalstown dominated in almost all sectors, Peter Tierney and Colin Walsh on top in defence and a man of the match performance from Ronan Conneely. To wrap up the night Conor Cowley moved from full back to midfield, couldn’t take the mantel of the final score of the game so he passed the buck to Davy Gordon who dropped a glorious chance short into the keeper’s hand, #devo, leaving final score Seneschalstown 4-15 Nobber 1-07.

In the push for a league final spot, Na Fianna won easily against Duleek/Bellewstown and remarkably Ratoath couldn’t field a team against Summerhill, leaving Summerhill with the points and level in second place with Seneschalstown. With these two teams having drawn earlier in the competition when they met and with a number of walkovers in the division, scorers for and against cannot account for second place meaning Seneschalstown will need to play Summerhill in a playoff for promotion and a league final spot against Na Fianna.

Seneschalstown: Shane Corbally, Ronan Conneely, Conor Cowley, Peter Tierney, Rob Darby (0-01), Colin Gleeson, Colin Walsh, Paul McDonnell, Stephen Finnegan, Ross Howard (1-00), Niall McCabe, Neil Darby(1-02), Shane Clarke (0-02), James Conlon (1-07), Ryan O’Dowd (1-03).

Seneschalstown Substitutions: David Gordon for S. Clarke, Aidan Finnegan for S. Finnegan, Damien McDonnell for C. Gleeson.
