The opening quarter belonged to Seneschalstown with midfielder Sean Commons opening the scoring after 2 minutes. Na Fianna responded with 2 points in the fourth minute from their captain – one of which was a free. Referee Tom Lorton disallowed a Ross Mullen goal for a ‘square ball’. However, Seneschalstown picked off the next four scores with Alan Mulvany (free), Jamie Kirwan, Joseph Moore and a free from Dylan Keating giving Seneschalstown a 0-05 0-02 lead after fifteen minutes. Na Fianna did respond with a point from play before Mulvany put over his second point again from a free. In the 20th minute the Enfield/Baconstown side rattled the Seneschalstown net for the first time after the corner forward put the ball past ‘keeper Brian Boyd to level matters. Immediately though, Seneschalstown responded with a major of their own when Sean Careys point attempt dropped under the bar and into the net. Na Fianna responded with two frees before Boyd produced a terrific penalty save as well as from the rebound to keep the ‘town in front. Seneschalstown worked the ball upfield and won a free which Mulvany tapped over to send the Yellow Furze men into the changing rooms with a two point lead.
