A League Division 1 Round 1

Gaeil Colmcille 2-12 Seneschalstown 0-10

With Fr. Tully Park unplayable due to waterlogging this game was switched to Grangegodden and with home advantage relinquished Seneschalstown found the going tough in this Round 1 encounter which was played with a strong breeze blowing across the field of play.
The opening exchanges of the game were of the tight nature until the home side managed to hit the opening goal of the match with Bryan Clarke accounting for four points and Sean Noonan the other as Seneschalstown trailed by 0-05 to 1-06 at the interval.

The early stages of the second half saw the Kells side go six points clear but with Clarke keeping the scoreboard ticking over Seneschalstown remained in touch but couldn’t get it within a few points. Then with the clock heading for the sixty-minute mark Gaeil Colmcille found the net for the second time and with that the game was over as a contest.

While the result was disappointing the game was notable for the senior debuts of David Gordon between the posts and centre back Niall Hickey, two members of the 2015 Minor team as well as the return to action following a year out of the game of Gerry Sheridan. Best for the team today were James Byrne and Bryan Clarke.

Next up is a game against Wolfe Tones in Kilberry next Sunday at 14:30.

Seneschalstown: David Gordon, Gerry Sheridan, David Matthews, Sean McCabe, Niall McCabe, Niall Hickey, James Byrne, Damien Sheridan, Sean Noonan (0-01), Niall Lyons (0-01), Bryan Clarke (0-08), Stephen Finnegan, Brian Sheridan, Joe Sheridan, Jonathan Gilsenan.

Seneschalstown Substitutions: James Meade for B. Sheridan and Robert Ruddy for Jonathan Gilsenan.
