1997
- JEKYLL AND HYDE YEAR FOR SENESCHALSTOWN. ........ |
1997 will not hold too many fond memories for the followers of Seneschalstown. A
year which promised so much at the beginning, deteriorated rapidly into the realms
of embarrassment. A quarter final mauling at the hands of Simonstown drew the curtain
on their participation in the championship, which prior to that had been topsy turvy
to say the least.

SENESCHALSTOWN
THE COUNTIES MOST CONSISTENT TEAM ........ |
In last year's yearbook, we described Seneschalstown as the "Great Enigma of Meath
football". Little has happened in the intervening twelve months to disprove the
description. The Seneschalstown Senior footballers are a collective riddle, brilliant
on one occasion and mediocre the next. And to compound the riddle, the statistics
prove beyond all doubt that they are the most consistent team in the county and
if ever a team deserved to win a major trophy, then Seneschalstown's capture at
the Feis Cup in November was the occasion.

UNDERAGE
TALENT IN THE SENESCHALSTOWN AREA. ........ |
Despite the championship semi-final hammering by O'Mahony's, Seneschalstown remain
very much a team for the '90s. Their great ability to produce one or two exceptional
players each season must surely make the Yellow Furze combination a hot tip for
the Keegan Cup honours in the none too distant future. The year gone was another
productive season for underage football over Seneschalstown way. At the tail end
of '89 the club under the guidance of Mickey and Billy Dillon, Tommy Finnegan and
Tommy McDonnell swept to the Meath Under 17 league title. This although beaten by
Skryne in the opening round but the Furze youngsters recovered in style to edge
out St. Martins, Dunboyne, Trim, Simonstown, Kells, Oldcastle, Kilcloon, St. Pats
and St. Colmcilles.

FURZE
FINISH SEASON IN A BLAZE ........ |
For long spells during the year it looked like Seneschalstown were going to finish
the season with nowt to show for their troubles. The minors beaten with a late Ballinabrackey
rally and then the seniors, as in '88, twice beaten by Navan O'Mahonys by a mere
point in vital championship confrontations. The Furze premier XV also had a good
run in the first division of the League and qualified for an October final meeting
with arch rivals O'Mahonys at Kilberry. The previous Sunday, Navan had beaten Skryne
in the Keegan Cup decider and were the obvious hot favourites. ...more

ANOTHER
GERAGHTY FOR SENESCHALSTOWN........ |
The area of Seneschalstown G.F.C. has always thrown up good footballers. Players
of the calibre of All-Ireland medal winners Colm Coyle and Mattie McCabe. Underage
success is not unusual to the young lads from the Yellow Furze. A number of under
12, 14, 16 minor and under-21 medals have found resting places along the Banks of
the Boyne. The mid eighties were no exception with another talented bunch of youngsters
arriving on the scene. And , according to most observers, the pick of the latest
crop is young Graham Geraghty - born May 17th 1973.
